Footsteps of Gopal
Footsteps of Gopal is Elaine Pike's memoir of her twenty-day, 100-mile trek in the Everest region of Nepal. Joined by her husband, Tom, and Marcus, their long-time friend, they are guided over three Himalayan passes in excess of 17,500 feet. The frigid cold and lack of oxygen are only two of the obstacles they face along the way; a potential trip-ending illness threatens their success along with exhaustion and diminishing morale.
The heart of the story lies in the interrelationship between the three trekkers; their guide, Gopal; and the two porters who transport their gear. Their remarkable alliance sparks a spirit of teamwork, which proves to be the unforgettable reason why their hard-earned triumph is such an inspirational tale of success.
